COMMITTED TO THE EDUCATION AND CAREER GROWTH OF REAL ESTATE’S FUTURE LEADERS, NAIOP SOCAL AND CENTER FOR REAL ESTATE AT UC IRVINE PAUL MERAGE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS CREATE CRE-NAIOP FELLOWSHIP

MBA Students Entering 2009/2010 Academic Year Eligible for $7,500 Award

COSTA MESA, Calif. (July 22, 2009) – NAIOP SoCal, the region’s leading commercial real estate organization, and the Center for Real Estate at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business, have joined together to build the industry’s future leadership through creation of a fellowship. The CRE-NAIOP Fellowship will provide a deserving student with financial support to pursue an unparalleled learning experience with some of the nation’s top real estate executives and scholars.

The CRE-NAIOP Fellowship will provide one recipient with a $7,500 financial award, which will be honored in the form of tuition over a period of three quarters, beginning fall 2009. To provide a richer learning experience, the student will have the opportunity to become an intern or mentor at a NAIOP member company along with the opportunity to serve an internship with the NAIOP SoCal Board of Directors.

“One of the most important contributions our chapter can make is to help our industry develop its next leaders. We can make this happen through both our own leadership commitment and by providing the financial resources to a very deserving young person to continue their education,” said Tom Sherlock, president of NAIOP SoCal and senior managing director with Buchanan Street Partners. “This fellowship is another example of our commitment to the next generation that includes our Young Professionals Group (YPG) program and annual UCLA vs USC Real Estate Challenge.”

The merit-based Fellowship will be awarded to an incoming full-time student or second year fully-employed MBA student that best exemplifies a strong interest in pursuing and excelling in a career in commercial real estate. This criterion will be determined by examining the candidates’ admissions applications, which include GPA, GMAT score and work experience, as well as a one-page essay describing why the candidate feels they should be awarded the Fellowship.

Those interested in applying to the CRE-NAIOP Fellowship must complete a scholarship application and submit the one-page essay by 5 p.m. on September 1, 2009. The scholarship application can be downloaded from NAIOP SoCal’s web site at http://naiopsocal.org/In-the-News. Essays can be submitted via email to the Full-Time MBA office at Jhchu@merage.uci.edu or to the Fully-Employed MBA office at czingare@merage.uci.edu.

All applications will be reviewed by the respective MBA program office and the Center for Real Estate. A short list of finalists will be established and interviewed by the Academic Director of the Center for Real Estate Development. The fellowship recipient will be announced by October 15, 2009.
